Travel in North Harris

Walking / Cycling

Walking and cycling are becoming increasingly popular ways to get around North Harris, particularly via the Hebridean Way.  There are many paths throughout the area, see our path network for more information.

Public Transport

Tarbert acts as the central hub for public transport around Harris, please see here for the latest local bus timetable information, and Calmac ferry terminal timetables can be found here.

Driving

Single track roads with passing places are commonplace in North Harris.  Please use passing places to permit overtaking - they are not only for oncoming traffic!  Further information can be found here and here

Parking

There are many parking areas throughout North Harris, and we do not impose charges for the use of most of these.  However, we do welcome donations, and donation posts can be found at key locations.

We have installed parking meters in a small number of 'hot-spot' parking locations where we have co-located facilities.  All parking meters accept contactless card payments only – cash payment is not possible.

Overnight Parking & Aires

Overnight parking is only permitted at designated locations in North Harris, a map of these can be found below. Supporting facilities for overnight parking, including chemical disposal and electric hook ups, are available at Huisinis Gateway and Urgha Aire.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT TAKE BOOKINGS; these facilities are operated on a first come first served basis.
