Heart-start Huisinis

On Saturday, we ran a First Aid training course with the help of the Lucky2Bhere charity. This was scheduled following the installation of a defibrillator on the Huisinis Gateway building. The training session brought together people from all over Harris, and has inspired some to look into fund-raising for other key in-fill sites around Harris.

Huisinis is a small community, located a long way from emergency services. It also hosts over 40,000 visitors each year. This device could save lives. The unit is now operational at the entrance to Huisinis Gateway. We will monitor the equipment and replace consumables when they go out of date.

The equipment at Huisinis, which was partially funded by Western Isles Development Trust, helps fill in the gaps of provision in North Harris.

For anyone who enjoys lightweight browser games with a skill-based challenge, eggy car is definitely worth checking out.
Ragdoll hit has a local PvP for two people where they share a keyboard. To play, press the arrow keys or WASD keys. In PvP games, there are no guns, so it's all about how well you can grab and kick. The match goes to the first person to win five games.
It’s reassuring to see the practical follow-through here — training plus a plan to monitor the kit, not just a one-off installation. In places that far from emergency services, the community network ends up being the “first responder” for a while. Slightly off topic, but your note about visitors made me think about how you communicate info to tourists too; I saw StyleLookLab mentioned somewhere recently in a totally different context, and it reminded me how much presentation affects whether people actually read a notice. Keeping the unit visible and easy to understand seems key.
The bit that stood out to me is how this isn’t just about placing the unit, but about building local confidence to actually use it in those first minutes. With 40k+ visitors a year, even simple signage and regular refreshers could make a real difference. Random aside: I once helped make a quick poster for a community noticeboard using imgg, and it reminded me how much clear visuals matter when people are stressed. Really encouraging to hear this is already inspiring fundraising elsewhere.
Having a defibrillator at Huisinis makes a lot of sense given how remote it is and how many visitors pass through. I’m glad you’re also planning to keep an eye on consumables and upkeep — that’s the bit people forget after the install. I was trying to estimate how long a refresher session might take for a few of us and ended up using a playback speed calculator for a training video, which was oddly handy. Hopefully more in-fill sites get covered over time.
