A firm of architects based in Edinburgh has been commissioned to prepare a Conservation Plan for the station, following a competitive tendering exercise and site visits will begin shortly. The Plan is required by Historic Scotland before more detailed planning consent to carry out works can be agreed to. The sea wall defences around the chimney are still a matter of concern however the Historic Scotland architect considered that our proposed method of carrying out temporary repairs was not the best solution and that this should be addressed in the development plan we eventually put to them. It is planned to make the Whaling Station Action Group a formally Constituted Body as soon as possible and to progress with plans.
