The project to erect up to 3 turbines generating 2.5mw is managed by North Harris Trading Co., Ltd., the wholly owned subsidiary of the Trust, and is chaired by David Cameron. After a meeting in March, planning permission has finally been granted to erect the turbines in Monan, although this has still to be passed and approved by the Scottish Executive. A huge amount of work has been carried out this year in obtaining initial quotations for phases of the development and the complex environmental reports and studies required to support the Planning application that was lodged in the summer. A small number of objections had been lodged and the process had been delayed as requests for further information and documentations have had to be satisfied and the resources of the Planners themselves are stretched because of the number of applications coming before them. Sources of finance for the project have been discussed with several institutions and there are indications that the scheme would attract the necessary investment.

The success of this project is very important for the Trust’s future as the estimated annual net income would be in the order of £100,000. This would ensure our longer term sustainability and give us the ability to invest meaningful sums of money for the benefit of North Harris, and it is likely that further post would be created to manage this and other renewable energy matters. We will consider incorporating R.E. in all it’s various ways and forms in the projects we undertake.
