Affordable housing is a country-wide issue and the Trust has been aware of this from the
outset. A very promising beginning to address the problem in North Harris was
made, when agreement was reached with Ardhasaig Common Grazings to make available an area
of Land at Bunavoneader, that will accommodate 6 plots initially. Outline planning
permission for housing has been obtained.
We have spent some time trying to obtain quotations for the ground preparation
and infrastructure involved, before offering them for sale as serviced plots. Tighean Innse Gall has expressed an interest in partnering with us on the site, whereby 3 of the plots would be purchased by them and used to provide 8 homes for rented accommodation, similar to that at Cliasamol. Four further, potential plots have been identified near to Cliasamol School and we hope that they can soon be offered for sale. The Trust has continued to be involved in the Harris and Lewis Rural Housing pilot project, to formulate policies and develop initiatives to tackle issues with affordable housing in community areas. We hope to advertise the post of Development Officer in the near future, now that funding is in place, courtesy of Communities Scotland, WIE, CNES, Crofters Commission, the Trust and two other community bodies. |
