In the last few days a dead Minke whale has washed up on the North Shore of West Loch Tarbert at Buna Abhainn Edarra.
It is likley that this is the same whale that was spotted unusually close to the shore between Buna Abhainn Edarra and Loch Mhiabhaig a couple of weeks ago. For some unknown reason unjured cetaceans often seek out shallow waters turning up in unusual places.
Whilst it is sad to see such a huge creature dead, there was no reason to suspect that it had not died of natural causes. The carcas will now provide food for many scavengers through the late summer and autumn as it breaks down.
